Boys Prep is invested in generating interest in the subjects of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Driven by the philosophy to "start early with the end in mind," Public Prep Academies have implemented a replicable model of science and math education in the early grades, with great impact.
Boys Prep is unique in that each scholar, starting from Kindergarten, receives science instruction from science-only faculty members exclusively focused on teaching the wonders of science.
Moreover, Public Prep Academies are some of the only public elementary schools in New York to have Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) in math starting from Kindergarten and departmentalized math-only teachers, starting from third grade. During CGI, students dissect and solve one complex problem each day for 45 minutes in small groups, and present their thinking to the entire class. This innovative approach enables a high-level of student discourse about mathematics beginning in Kindergarten.
By establishing in elementary school a strong foundation in math and science, Boys Prep helps instill an early love of inquiry, critical thinking and problem solving, which will in turn ignite a curiosity and pursuit of STEM-related careers.
