Special Populations at Boys Prep
Boys Prep is committed to creating inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of the diverse learners in the communities that we serve. To meet this goal, we invest heavily in professional development for all staff, including training in formative assessment, differentiation strategies, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Based on our enrollment, we also implement an integrated co-teaching model in at least one classroom per grade level in which a certified general education teacher co-teaches with a special education-certified teacher. In these classrooms, as in our school at large, our goal will be to create a truly inclusive community in which teachers allocate their time and resources flexibly and in response to data in order to meet the needs of all students.
Boys Prep has a Student Academic Support Team in order to meet students’ IEP needs, supply ELL services, or provide remediation or extension support in response to formative data.
Boys Prep has a talented Learning Specialist who helps oversee services and assists teachers and families with the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process. We serve students with special needs in a variety of settings, depending on their needs.
Inclusive classrooms are called Collaborative Team Teaching Classrooms (CTT). Two teachers lead CTT classrooms, one is special education certified and the other is certified in general education. CTT classrooms use all six co-teaching models, including parallel teaching, team teaching, one teach/one observe, one teach/one assist, station-teaching, and alternative teaching. We use flexible grouping, so that students work with both teachers and with both special education and general education students.

Boys Prep is an inclusive school, and actively seeks to recruit and serve English Language Learners (ELL).
Instruction focuses on helping students develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. We do this by providing our students with frequent feedback, enhancing students’ vocabularies, and immersing students in language and story-telling.
